Caribbean Central American Action (CCAA) expresses its sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues, and to the citizens of Haiti, upon the passing of former President Préval.

CCAA’s Executive Director, Sally Yearwood, says: “President Préval was a stand-out in the Haitian political landscape. During his terms as President, and in his civilian life, he was always focused on the projects and programs that he believed would provide a better life for the people of Haiti. He was an astute politician, while being seemingly unimpressed by the trappings that go with the Presidency.”  CCAA was honored to have President Préval participate in its Annual Conference in 1996 and 1999.

President from 1996 to 2001, and from 2006 until 2011, President Préval was at the helm during multiple natural disasters including hurricanes and the devastating 2010 earthquake.  He was also at the helm during two successful democratic transitions of power. His legacy of navigating Haitian politics with quiet influence will be missed.
