Caribbean 2020 – Implementing H.R. 4939: From Vision to Engagement

The first requirement under H.R.4939 was the publication of a report by the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development. This report, transmitted to Congress on June 19, 2017, lays out the vision for engagement in “Caribbean 2020: A Multi-Year Strategy to Increase the Security, Prosperity, and Well-Being of the People of the United States and the Caribbean”.
Next week’s event will be a part of the ongoing effort to dialogue on the future for U.S.-Caribbean relations. In addition to the event on July 25, CCAA would also like to bring attention to the following:
- The House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere will be holding a hearing on “Implementing the U.S.-Caribbean Strategic Engagement Act” this Wednesday, July 19, at 2:00pm in Rayburn 2172. The witness will be The Honorable Kenneth H. Merten, Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary / Special Coordinator for Haiti Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, U.S. Department of State.
- The Center for Strategic and International Studies recently issued a report “The Relevance of U.S.-Caribbean Relations”.
